Vision checks. There’s an app for that?

For the older population, going to the doctor is a day-long ordeal. You have to get ready, figure out a ride (if you don’t drive), spend an unnecessary amount of time in the waiting room and then spend a couple minutes waiting for your doctor, only to have him/her spend a few minutes checking your vision. What a hassle! Apparently some doctors thought so, too.

UT Southwestern for people with eye disease have developed a cell phone app called myVisionTrack. The app shows three circles on a screen, and patients are to touch the odd-shaped circle, which becomes more subtle with each click. If there are any vision changes, the doctor is alerted. The app is said to better monitor patients with glaucoma, macular degeneration and other eye diseases.

Although this app is experimental right now, it sounds awesome! So much more convenient than taking a trip to the eye doctor. What do you think? Would you trust an app like this to check your vision?
