Holiday Traveling: Don’t Get Left Behind

Traveling can be stressful. Holiday travel can just be madness. Keep up with experienced travelers with these tips.

1. 360 degree wheel suitcases
Hate when your suitcase tips over even when taking a turn or running through the airport? Invest in 360 degree wheel suitcase. You don’t even need to tilt your bag to drag it. These bags, such as the Samsonite Spinner will actually spin 360 degrees making it much easier to manage.

2. Vitamins
Worried about germs in the airplane? Take some Vitamin C to boost your immune system or even try Airborne for that extra protection.

3. Snack
Most shorter flights do no offer food and the longer flights that do offer them cost money. Make sure to pack some protein in your suitcase before you get to the airport – try trail mix or a protein bar and you’ll be set on your flight especially if you get delayed on the ground.

4. The Carry-on Necessities
Make sure to pack medicines and other necessities that you can’t easily purchase at your travel destination. Pack one change of clothes and a bathing suit if needed just in case your bags get delayed or lost.

5. Print & Pay ahead of time
Print your boarding pass first before you get to the airport. This is especially important now that airlines charge for bags. You can pay for your bags ahead of time. This will save time as you may only have to then check your bag at the curb or go in a separate line for those as prepared as you!

Remember you are going on VACATION. Try to relax and enjoy yourself. You’ll be there soon.

Traveling made easy for seniors

As you get older, traveling can become less fun and more stressful. Remember when you were having your first child and saying to yourself, when my kids are grown up then I’m going to travel?! Well travel CAN be fun. Don’t let the stress get to you. We’ve got some ideas to help.

1. Travel with a group.

Traveling in a group takes the “planning” out of the trip. All you have to do is pick the place and show up! Plus, you can meet other people in the same situation with you and maybe even a future travel partner!  Check out the site, ElderTreks, which is geared toward traveling for the 50+. The company, established in 1987, is the world’s very first adventure travel company for senior citizens.

“ElderTreks offers active, off-the-beaten-path, small-group adventures by both land and sea in over 100 countries. ElderTreks offers wildlife and tribal African safaris, active hiking trips to the Rockies, Himalayas and Andes, expeditions by icebreakers to the Arctic and Antarctic and cultural journeys throughout Asia, South America and much of the world.”

You can also search for similar “travel groups” online that may better suit your demographic and travel style.

2. Call the local visitors bureau before you go.

Local visitor bureaus know what is in their backyard! They can help you plan a trip that is tailored toward you and recommend when you might want to visit their area. Santa Fe, New Mexico is a great cultural spot right and has a great online visitors bureau: http://santafe.org/.

3. Stay in someone’s home!

Sometimes hotels cause more havoc then pleasure. Feel at home when you travel! The new thing to do is rent someones home for the week or weekend. Try a site like homeaway.com. Plus, the owners may also give you some great tips on local restaurants and “off-the-beaten” path suggestions.
