Only 10% of macular
degeneration cases get wet macular degeneration.
It is the less common of the two types of macular degeneration
and it is the most severe. Ninety percent of all serious
vision loss is a result of wet macular degeneration.
Wet macular degeneration occurs when
new blood vessels located behind the retina begin to
grow toward the macula. New blood vessels are very delicate.
They can often break and leak blood fluid under the
macula.
As the fluid blood gathers under the
macula, rapid changes occur. The macula quickly damages.
The result can be a very rapid loss of central vision.
An early symptom of wet macula degeneration is that
the straight lines begin to appear wavy. The fluid causes
the macula to be higher than its normal place and your
vision becomes distorted. You may also notice a blind
spot. If you notice, such symptoms you need to contact
your doctor.
