About AREDS:
In October 2001 The National Eye Institute (NEI), part of the Federal government's National Institutes of Health, completed a 10 year major clinical study called the Age-Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS). AREDS proved that patients taking a special formula of antioxidant vitamins plus zinc were more likely to retain their macular health. This formula is found in Viteyes® AREDS Formula.

To protect your vision against AMD, it’s important to know the facts. Here are some common questions about this all-too-common threat to your eyes:
WHAT IS THE MACULA?
The macula is the central part of the retina of the eye. All your reading vision, or “fine vision,” takes place in the macula. Every time you look directly at something, you are using the macula.
WHAT IS AMD?
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the most common cause of permanent vision loss in Americans over age 60. In people who have AMD, the central fine vision needed for “straight ahead” viewing, such as reading and driving, is damaged. While there is no cure, there is a way to lessen the risk of vision loss from AMD.
WHAT IS AREDS?
The Age-Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS) was a major ten-year study sponsored by the National Eye Institute, part of the U.S. government’s National Institutes of Health. The study, completed in late 2001, found that people at high risk of developing advanced stages of AMD lowered their risk by about 25% when treated with a high-dose combination of antioxidants plus zinc.
WHO SHOULD TAKE THESE VITAMINS?
The study found that patients with intermediate AMD or advanced AMD in one eye but not the other were more likely to benefit. Your eye care doctor will tell you if you should be taking Viteyes® AREDS Formulas. Ask your doctor about the benefits of taking lutein as well.
WHAT ARE THE DAILY DOSES OF THE VITAMINS AND MINERALS RECOMMENDED BY AREDS?
Vitamin A (beta-carotene 15 mg): 25,000 IU
Vitamin C: 500 mg
Vitamin E: 400 IU
Zinc (zinc oxide): 80 mg
Copper (cupric oxide): 2 mg
I’M ALREADY TAKING VITAMINS. WHY DO I NEED TO TAKE VITEYES® AREDS FORMULA?
The National Eye Institute’s study proved that only a specific formula effectively delayed the progression of AMD. Most likely your multivitamin supplement doesn’t provide all the recommended vitamins and minerals at the proper doses. To find out whether it contains the specific eye-protective formula, compare the ingredients and doses of your supplement with those recommended by the study.
VITEYES® IS FORMULATED TO PROTECT YOUR VISION
The identical formula the one recommended by the National Eye Institute is used in Viteyes® AREDS, AREDS Plus Lutein, and AREDS Advanced (Viteyes® Plus Lutein Beta-Carotene Free and Viteyes® Advanced Beta-Carotene Free contain the AREDS formula but without beta-carotene). Viteyes® AREDS formulas are available in only two daily “easy-to-swallow” capsules, conveniently delivered to your home, and are less expensive than other leading brands.
