Viteyes® formulas without beta-carotene are formulated for anyone who prefers to avoid beta-carotene. This formul also contains the potential benefit of lutein (6 mg), an antioxidant carotenoid found in fruits and green leafy vegetables as well as the macular region of the healthy retina.

Viteyes® Plus Lutein Beta-Carotene Free comes in a 180 easy to swallow capsule (3 month supply) bottle. To ensure and maintain the maximum level of purity and potency, Viteyes® is formulated using only the highest quality ingredients.

About Lutein:
Lutein is highly concentrated in the macula, a small area of the retina responsible for central vision, and high visual acuity. Lutein cannot be made by the body and therefore must be obtained from food or dietary supplements. Many studies show lutein has positive benefits on AMD.

About AREDS:
In October 2001 The National Eye Institute (NEI), part of the Federal government's National Institutes of Health, completed a 10 year major clinical study called the Age-Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS). AREDS proved that patients taking a special formula of antioxidant vitamins plus zinc were more likely to retain their macular health. This formula is found in Viteyes® Plus Lutein Beta-Carotene Free.

Lutein has been in the news frequently for new studies on eye, heart and skin health. Below are a couple studies highlighting the link between lutein and macular health.

Lutein has been shown to improve visual sharpness in patients with AMD, according to the recent LAST trial (Lutein Antioxidant Supplementation Trial).* This studys findings suggest that AMD symptoms may be reversed through lutein supplementation.>

Researchers studying th 4,519 Age-Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS) participants found that lutein and zeaxanthin absorb blue light that could damage the macula by preventing free radicals from damaging eye cells and by strengthening eye cell membranes.** This study concluded that long-term lutein intake may lower your risk of developing cataracts and macular degeneration.

*Richer S et al. Double-masked, placebo-controlled, randomized trial of lutein and antioxidan supplementation in the intervention of atrophic age-related macular degeneration: the Veterans LAST study (Lutein Antioxidant Supplementation Trial). Optometry 75:216-30, 2004
**This study, published in Archives of Ophthalmology, concluded that a higher intake of lutein and zeaxanthin may help lower the risk for AMD.

In October 2001, the National Eye Institute (NEI) one of the Federal Government's National Institutes of Health (NIH) completed a large ten-year study, the Age-Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS). AREDS proved that the formula in Viteyes macular degeneration vitamins can slow the progression of Macular Degeneration by 25% in people at risk of developing advanced stages of the disease. Viteyes supplies the AREDS recommended formula in only TWO daily highly soluble, easy-to-swallow capsules.

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of blindness in people over the age of 55 affecting over 6 million people in the United States. AMD is the degeneration of the central part of the retina called the macula. The macula is the part of the retina that is responsible for straight-ahead vision. People with AMD should speak with their doctor about macular degeneration vitamins featuring the AREDS formula.
