Practical Ways To Protect Your Eyes In The Office

Our last post mentioned adjusting your computer monitor and the brightness as ways to positively impact your vision but there are many more important ways you can promote better vision, so let’s get right back into it!

Minimize Blue Light

As your computer emits blue light, you can lower the amount of blue light emitted at the end of the day. Programs such as  f.lux  adapts the screen with the time of day. In addition, you can try wearing blue light blocking glasses while you work.

Take eye breaks!

We know it can be difficult to peel yourself away from your desk, but it’s important — if only in the name of eye health — to give your eyes a break. Have you heard about the 20-20-20 rule? If you’re really looking for an effective way to support your eyes, try it out.

Here are the basics:

Every 20 minutes, gaze at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.

Beyond this, consider taking a stroll outside and letting your eyes relax and wander. We need the entire spectrum of light waves for our eyes, so go without sunglasses for a moment and absorb all of the beneficial rays!

Take an eye supplement!

Although the above suggestion can help at work, we are bombarded with blue light from many sources all day long – smartphones, LED lighting, and even the sun. You may consider taking a daily supplement with lutein and zeaxanthin. These nutrients are like wearing internal sunglasses and to help block the blue light you’re exposed to — support your eye health from the inside out!

It’s hard to get all of the nutrients we need to support our eyes, so taking an eye supplement can promote long-term healthy vision!
